Elliptical Galaxies


Elliptical galaxies are as you might have guessed, in the shape of ellipses. These galaxies are classifies using the letter E followed by a number from zero to seven representing just how elliptical it is. E0 represents a circular galaxy, while E7 represents a highly elliptical galaxy. These galaxies are mostly made up of old red giants which give them a reddish color. These galaxies lack gas and dust, which leads to few new stars forming.
