Galaxies are classified according to their shapes. The most common ones are spiral, elliptical, and irregular. Galaxies are then grouped together into galaxy clusters.
Our own galaxy, the Milky Way is a very large spiral galaxy consisting of several hundred billion stars. The milky way is in a cluster with the Andromeda Galaxy, the Large Magellanic Cloud, the Small Magellanic Cloud, as well as a few other small galaxies.
