| The furthest planet from the sun, Pluto, is the smallest of the planets. Pluto has a diameter of 2,390km or about .19 Earth diameters. It is even considerably smaller than our own moon which has a diameter of 3,476km. Pluto has a mass of about .002 Earth masses. The nature of Pluto's size as well as it's strange orbit(Pluto's orbit is inclined 17 degrees from the ecliptic) leads many to argue that it should be demoted from being a planet and should be classified as a Kuiper Belt Object. Objects in the Kuiper Belt exhibit similar characteristics to Pluto and Pluto's moon, Charon. |
