Fission

Fission occurs when an element's nucleus breaks apart to form two elements. This occurs when a nucleus gets too big for the strong nuclear force to hold it together anymore. This process can be induced by adding nucleons to the nucleus of a large atom.

Currently, fission reactors are used in nuclear power plants. The useful reaction in these power plants is:

235U+n<->two atoms+2n0

Where 235U=Uranium-235 and n=neutron.
